Be one of the first groups ever to embark on a school trip to Sabah’s “lost world” – a huge natural crater formed by the movement of the earth’s crust, creating a rugged and impenetrable terrain – until now!

Newly inaugurated by the Malaysian Prime Minister in January 2011, your student group have the opportunity stay at this brand new research station and explore a rain forest that has remained untouched since time immemorial, a perfect habitat for a wide variety of faunal species including the endangered orangutan, pygmy elephant, Sumatran rhinoceros, wild cattle (Tembadau) and thousands of insects and beautiful flora. This unique rainforest and its terrain will offer students the opportunity to experience one of the world’s last pristine ecosystems.

As part of this Wild@Heart Adventure, students get the chance to:

Partner in the establishment of a plant nursery.
Learn how to set insect traps and identify the vast numbers of species caught. Students will also help in creating an insect identification database.
Learn transect methodology in the forest for measuring biodiversity and abundance.
Working from the Sky Bridge, high up in the forest canopy, students can gain a thorough understanding of the rain forest ecosystem and the ecological processes that help to maintain this delicate habitat.
Monitor environmental variables to learn about how a single change in the cycle will affect the environment and ecosystem.
Help build and maintain a herbarium as well as how to preserve and mount plant specimens for identification.
